This book explores the impact of parents' employment, or unemployment on the educational and emotional well-being of their children. Linda Cusworth uses theoretical apparatus from Bourdieu and data from the youth survey of the British Household Panel Study to show that parental employment patterns have an influence on children in a variety of ways: in terms of the effect on family income, the time that parents spend with their children and in providing a role-model for children's own future aspirations.
