This publication presents the population projections of the United Kingdom and its constituent countries, by age and sex and explains the methodology and assumptions used. The projections cover the period 2002 to 2072 and supersede the results of the previous 2000-based projections.
The projections, prepared by the Government Actuary in consultation with the Registrars General, provide an estimate of the future population of the UK as a common framework for use in national planning in a number of different fields.
