Family Life is a simulation covering one month (one issue) in the life of a magazine called Family Life. The participants working in a team(s) are catapulted into the role of editor of the Magazine and have to plan the content of the next edition (due in the newsagents within four weeks): which of the regular features will they run with? What mix of in-house writers freelance or off-the-shelf stories will they use? How will they estimate the timescales and costs and monitor them against budget? And what profit do they forecast for the issue. As time ticks by during the three-hour simulation the weeks tick by on the magazine and the team needs to manage contingencies respond to changes and work together as a team.
