This book analyses the economic perspectives of the various groups of less developed countries during the 1990s. It tries to answer the question of what amount of external financial flows will be required in the various scenarios to achieve acceptable pre-determined patterns of economic growth in the developing world and what the future role of development aid can be in that respect. The study employs various methodologies in trying to answer the above question and focuses on all less developed regions and on the least developed in particular. The main conclusion is that even under optimistic assumptions the majority of the most vulnerable regions will need more rather than less aid if one does not want the 1990s to become another lost development decade for many of the worst-off countries.
