Some organizations work better than others. Those that are most effective have an organizational culture that is most in tune to the size of the organization its age and the nature of the work that they do. Eldorado is a simple simulation that allows teams to experience the difference in terms of their performance between an appropriate and inappropriate culture. Working in small teams participants are given what seems a simple task: to fill a board with squares and earn points in the process. With each team trying to achieve maximum points the task becomes more complex with each round. The game involves planning decision-making communication leadership and negotiation. Eldorado includes a copy of an organizational climate diagnostic which allows the participants to then assess their own organization's culture against four possible models: autocratic networking bureaucratic and task oriented. Together the simulation and the diagnostic allow group members to understand the culture of their organization weigh up the relative merits of that culture and identify any changes they would like to initiate.
