The aim of this book is to provide detailed information in an international context on the methods approaches and techniques used in the mass appraisal of land and buildings for property tax purposes. At the present time there are some 120?130 countries involved in the taxing of property but only a few are utilising mass appraisal techniques. However this should be viewed against the substantial number of government departments currently investigating the application of these new techniques. One of the main problems which this book attempts to solve is the provision of detailed information on the various types of mass appraisal approaches currently being used. This book will effectively bridge the gap between those countries using the techniques and those wishing to find out more about the application and role of these new technological advances. Given the diversity of property types the format of the book will be to examine the application of discrete systems in relation to the following property types: residential commercial agricultural forestry and industrial. This will give the unique opportunity of providing detailed information at a level which should prove invaluable to others interested in the application and introduction of such systems. The structure of the book focuses on the international dimension with one chapter being devoted to a particular country.
