This book challenges some of the well worn tracks of philosophical theology. David Brown takes a number of key areas in philosophical theology and demonstrates how the lack of recognition of other disciplines can skew a proper assessment of arguments and their relative merits. It is a common temptation among philosophical theologians to suppose that they stand totally outside the constraint of historical conditioning common to other disciplines and so their assessments of arguments are entirely context-free. Brown argues that this is not an inherent limitation in the subject but rather in the way it is currently practised. In this cultural critique of contemporary philosophical theology David Brown focuses particularly on: justification of belief the Bible and historical criticism the problem of evil religious experience and Christian doctrine.
