This is the first volume in the EC/International Law Forum series and represents the product of the inaugural meeting of this event which took place in Bristol in April 1994. The choice of topic was partly dictated by the circumstances of the time and partly by ongoing considerations. Given that the Community is the largest trading entity in the world today and that the process of completing the Internal Market and bringing into force the Treaty on European Union almost overshadowed such important and sensitive issues as the negotiations within the GATT and the Community?s commercial relations with Eastern Europe and its major trading partners this work concentrates on the Community?s positon in the wider world and in particular the implications of the completion of the Internal Market on its external relations.
