It has been estimated that 500,000 young people in the UK wet the bed on some occasions and a number of health care professionals may become involved in their care, including health visitors, general practitioners, urologists and paediatricians. In the existing literature there is a plethora of randomised controlled clinical trials data of the efficacy of treatments as diverse as pharmacotherapy, behavioural training and acupuncture, yet surprisingly little is known about the nature and experience of bed wetting from the perspective of these young people and that of their parents and siblings. This study sets out to address these deficits and to gain new insights into an old problem, using predominantly qualitative rather than quantitative research methods.
