This book focuses on the theoretical and political issues of the relationship between money and the state raised by the crisis of Keynesianism and the rise of monetarism. This research into the political constitution of money throws light on the political significance of global debt for monetarist policies in Britain. On the basis of an original formulation of Marxist theory, the study locates different policy areas in terms of an accommodation of the British state to the enormously increased volatility of international money.
